Honeymoon safari from Nairobi: 9 nights 10 Days

Type of safari- Honeymoon Safaris , Destination - Kenya

Tour Summary

An exiting safari taking you to the best spots in Kenya. Enjoy the major gameparks in Kenya ending the safari with stay at the sun-kissed beaches of Kenya.

Day 1 : Arrival
Arrive Nairobi Airport and transfer to overnight at Norfolk Hotel, first opened in 1904 and still recognized for its legendary hospitality. Quiet rooms are a welcome retreat after the long flight.

Overnight at the Norfolk Hotel [Meals on your own]

Days 2/3 : Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha
Drive down the escarpment into the Great Rift Valley passing coffee, tea, and sugar cane plantations in the breadbasket of Kenya. Your accommodations at Loldia House retain their original charm and romantic character as a pioneer homestead built during the Second World War with comfy chairs surrounding a huge fireplace, paintings by a local artist who lives on the farm, and veranda to relax overlooking the garden, the dormant volcano of Mt. Longonot, and the lakeshore where animals graze. The eight rooms feature original furniture, sitting-rooms with fire place and panoramic lake-views. Gourment meals are served on the veranda under Acacia trees or in the original dining room.

Loldia is ideally situated for exploring the diverse natural sanctuaries of the region, particularly Lake Nakuru National Park to look for Black and white Rhino, Rothschild giraffe, leopard, and to watch millions of flamingoes color the lake pink. Walk or ride horseback on the 6,500 acre private ranch among flocks of ostrich and herds of wild antelope like waterbuck and impala. You can fish and bird-watch on Lake Naivasha and visit with students at the local school.

Overnights at Loldia House [BLD]

Days 4/6 : Maasai Mara Reserve
Relax another morning at Loldia house before a spectacular 45-minute afternoon flight over the Great Rift Valley Escarpment and on to the vast plains of the world-famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Transfer from the air strip to Governor's Camp situated in the forest along the curving banks of the Mara River full of snorting hippos, wading crocodiles, birds and other wildlife. Many of the 38 tents overlook the river, with the rest featuring sweeping views of the Mara Plains. Each tent is equipped with en-suite bath, hot water and flush toilet, and paraffin lamps creating warm, romantic charm. Enjoy meals overlooking the Mara plains, candlelight dinners and camaraderie with other guests around the bonfire.

Expert local driver-guides familiar with this ecosystem and the individual life history of resident predators take you out in search of lion, leopard, cheetah, and other big game. Summer months bring the enormous herds of the great migration from the Serengeti adding to resident herds of zebra, wildebeest, and topi. Under the expert interpretive skills of your naturalist guide learn about animal behavior and the fascinating cycles of life on the African plains. Walking safaris, visits to nearby Maasai villages, and fishing on Lake Victoria are also available at extra cost. Early one morning watch the sunrise and the savannah awaken from the lofty perch of a hot air balloon floating over the acacias , rivers and plains. Celebrate your new journey in life with a champagne breakfast served in the bush!

Overnight three nights at Governor's Camp. [BLD]

Days 7/9 : Lamu Island
Take your last early morning game drive before returning to the camp for breakfast and catching a scheduled flight via Nairobi to Lamu Island. This is a journey back in time as the only transport is by donkey or sailing dhow and the peaceful Swahili culture has remained unchanged for centuries. Local guides and dhow captains are available to show you around by land or sea. Wander through narrow cobblestone streets among residences and boutique stores shrouded in hanging gardens and intricately carved doors and balconies, visit the busy market in town, snorkel, scuba dive, fish, sail or kick-back on the pristine, white-sand beaches out your door.

For those looking to be closer to town your base on Lamu Island is the beautifully appointed Peponi Hotel on the beach front. The high tide laps the wall of your private open-air verandah soothing your soul. Swahili decor enhances the individually decorated rooms, all with private baths and fresh flowers. Seafood is a passion at Peponi with Mangrove crabs, warm water lobster, and giant prawns all making an appearance. A Swahili menu is also available, eaten in the traditional way on the floor around a huge brass platter. Leisurely lunches are often at the fresh water pool.

If you are looking for something more remote and secluded, we recommend the Kipungani Explorer (upgrade cost $100 per person). Perched on the edge of Kipungani Bay at the end of a deserted 14 kilometer beach, Kipungani is a dream of fourteen thatched chalets facing the sea each with a king sized bed. Enjoy spectacular seafood, sun, sand, and sea sports. Kipungani has a close bond with the nearby Kipungani Village, whose residents will show you their ancient boat-building and mat-weaving techniques, or take you fishing or prawn-netting in the remote Dadori Nature Reserve.

Overnights at Peponi Hotel or Kipungani Explorer

Day 10 : Depature
Greet your last day in Kenya with a leisurely breakfast followed by any last minute shopping or beach combing. Afternoon transfer to the Lamu Island airport for your return flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival you'll be met and transferred to the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden for dinner and then returned to the airport for your international flight.
