Zanzibar is an archipelago of over 50 islands with the largest two being Zanzibar Island and Pemba Islands. Zanzibar is only 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast and reached by high speed ferry or flights from Dar es Salaam and Arusha in the north. Zanzibar Island (known locally as Unguja) is relatively small [60 miles long and 20 miles wide].

Swahiili is the main language here. English is also widely spoken and understood.
Climate/best time to visit:
Zanzibar experiences ideal holiday weather for most of the year. The heat of summer is often cooled by pleasant sea breezes. Being near to the equator, the islands are warm all year round,
but officially, summer peaks in December and winter in June.
Zanzibar is blessed with an average of 7-8 hours of sunshine daily.
The long rains are from April to May, though typically it doesn't rain every day during this time.
The short rains are from October to November, the showers are short and intermittent.
How to get to Zanzibar:
Getting to Zanzibar by Air from the Rest of the World at present, Kenya airways (together with KLM) Air Tanzania, South African airways, offer international scheduled flights to Zanzibar. Several large carriers fly into Dar es Salaam, which is only a short trip by air or sea from Zanzibar.
Amongst them are British Airways, Emirates Airlines, Gulf air, Ethiopian airline.
